Retro 3d Retro-fit

Have you ever wanted to watch something in the old "blue n' red" 3d, but found that those cardboard glasses just weren't good enough?
If you've gone to one of those "realD" movies you know that at the end you are left with a pair of glasses you paid 2 bucks for but you can't do anything with anymore. So why not put them to use?
In this 'ible I'm going to instruct you on how to turn a pair of "realD" glasses into an old-school pair of "blue n' red" ones.

Now for the boring bit. I am, under no circumstances, responsible for what you do as a result of reading/following the instructions in this 'ible. Don't hurt yoursef, others, the family pet, trees, the environment, or anything else i forgot to mention while following these instructions. these glasses are not to be used as sunglasses (they won't protect your eyes), also don't wear them for a long time (or your eyes will see in shades of blue and red even after you take them off; and im pretty sure that that is not good for them).

But enough of that, lets start making stuff! :D

Things That You Will Need

-a pair of "realD" 3D glasses (the ones you get from 3D movies)
- a pair of red and cyan glasses or the same colors of cellophane (it must be rigid like plastic packaging, not like a plastic bag).
-scissors (any kind work. I used safety scissors, but use what you like)
-a marker that works on plastic
-glue (i used crayola project glue, but hot-glue or rubber-cement will also work.)

Disassemble

Slowly and carefully separate the front of the glasses from the back and arms. Don't worry if you can't completely remove it, you only need to be able to take the lenses out. Be careful not to snap the bit that goes over you nose.

Now its time to cannibalize your old 3D glasses. carefully tear away the cardboard from the lenses. Iff possible try to peel apart the layers as this will allow you to take out the lenses more cleanly.

*IMPORTANT NOTE: make sure that you note the orientation of the lenses of both the glasses (which lens came for which side and what color came from which side), so that you can match them accordingly. this is important for the next step.

Trace and Cut

Also known as "the step that i too far to many pictures of"... anyway...
Once you have the lenses paired, overlay them, then trace the shape of the lens onto the colored plastic. Do this for both lenses then cut them out.

The Choice

Now you have to make a decision, do you want your glasses to be functional or just look cool?
If you want them to work for both old and new 3D movies insert both the original and colored lenses in the frames. If not, just put in the colored lenses. once the lenses are in place put a dab of glue in the corners of the frames and re-attach them.

Pat Yourself on the Back

Congratulate yourself on creating an amazing pair of 3D glasses. Wear them proudly and amaxe all the other people at the movie theater by strolling in wearing a pair of these. :D
