Homemade Lawn Roller
I made this lawn roller from a old air compressor i have had for many years. The 60 gallon tank is the perfect size for the project.
Disassembling the Compressor
Step (1) the air compressor
step (2) unscrew the bolts holding the motor to the top bracket.
Step (3) unscrew the pressure switch from the tank.
step(4) unscrew all the fittings from the tank.
Grinding Brackets Off
step (1) unscrew the bottom drain line .
step(2) grind the welds off the top bracket and bottom bracket.
Drilling Pin Holes
Step (1) find center on the top of the compressor and drill a 3/4 inch hole
Step (2) the drain plug on the bottom is already on center i just had to drill the 3/4 inch hole.
Making the Roller Pins.
Step (1) i bought two 1 inch implement pins and two 3/4 inch stop collars from tractor supply for 15 dollars.
step (2) i had to turn the threaded side down to 3/4 of a inch on both pins to fit into the holes in the roller ,Then i had to turn the other 2 sides down to 3/4 of a inch to fit into the pillow bearings.
Welding the Pins.
Step (1) i then welded both pins into place on each end of the roller.
Side Frame Tubing and Mounting the Pillow Block Bearings
step(1) the whole frame was made from 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 squared tubing. 1/4 inch thick.
step(2) i cut 2 pieces 22 inches long .
step(3) marked holes for pillow block bearings and drilled holes and fastened them together with 3/8 x 2 1/2 inch long bolts.
Making the Cross Beam
step(1) measured and cut a piece 70 inches long and welded it to the pillow block arms.
Toungue Assembly
Step(1) i cut a piece 3 foot long to use for the tongue.
step(2) i measured 35 inches down the front main support and marked it.
step (3) i then welded the tongue to the mark on the center of the main support .
step(4) I then measured up the tongue 20 inches and put a mark. then measured in on both sides of the main support bracket 6 inches.
step (5) i cut 2 support braces 27 inches long and welded them to the marks.
Finishing Touches
Step (1) 2 cans of gloss black paint. and then mounted a 1 7/8 receiver end and its finished. All thats left is to fill it with play sand .
