Fischertechnik Spring Flower

This is a description of how to create a simple Spring flower model using fischertechnik elements!

I play with different educational manipulatives for a living. (Visit www.weirdrichard.com). Over the years I have built different holiday themed models using all sorts of toys. This instructable will describe how to create a model of a Spring flower!

Note: The CAD looking images were generated by LDraw/MLCAD and a fischertechnik elements library.

You will need to gather your elements. The fischertechnik elements are available from a range of kits available from ebay, Craig's List, or fischertechnik retailers. Elements can be purchased individually from www.fischertechnik.com.

The List:


15 Angular Block 60 Degrees
5 Angular Block 30 Degrees
3 Building Block 30s
2 Building Block 15s
1 Base Plate 120x60
1 Building Block 5 with two Pins
6 Building Block 7.5s
6 Mounting Plate 15x30s

Stack three Building Block 30s into the eighth slot from either end and on the near side of a Base Plate 120x60. This will act as the stem of the flower.

Add an Angular Block 60 on each end of a Building Block 15 to make a leaf. Make two leaf assemblies, and slide them down the sides of the Building Block 30 stack.

Slide a Building Block 5 with two Pins down the near face of the Building Block 30 stack. Fix a Building Block 7.5 on the block, and then a Mounting Plate 15x30 to act as the lowest petal.

Fix an Angular Block 60 on the top of the Building Block 30 stack. This block will act as a keystone that the rest of the flower assembly will slide onto. Set the model aside.

Create the rest of the flower assembly. Begin by combine five Angular Block 60s. Then add five more at a 90 degree angle to the previous blocks. Add five Angular Block 30s onto the previous Angular Block 60s. Slide Building Block 7.5s onto each Building Block 7.5. Finish the assembly by inserting five Mounting Plate 15x30s into each Building Block 7.5.

Slide the flower assembly onto the keystone located on the block stem. Enjoy your Spring time flower!
