These berry ice cubes are easy to make and they look gorgeous! They're perfect for impressing friends and family with very little effort. Or making water more exciting so you drink more of it. :D

I think I might just start making these anytime I find cheap over-ripe berries honestly. They're awesome.

Bonus: berry ice cubes make great drinks for Fourth of July too!

[ plus, I really just wanted to take lots of pretty photos today. SUCCESS! ]

What You'll Need

I'm using reverse osmosis filtered water here, but bottled distilled water works great too! I'll explain why you want to use a certain type on the next step. :)

Get Clearer Ice Cubes With This Trick

For best results when adding whole items to ice cubes, follow this Instructable. Making the ice a little more clear than normal will really make the berries stand out when you put them in a drink. :)

You'll want to start with filtered water - boil it, cool it down a bit, and then boil again. Wait until it's room temp before pouring over the berries.

Wash the Berries Well

Place the berries in a colander or sieve and run them under cold water - you want to get rid of any excess stems, leaves or woody bits as those will make the ice cubes grainy and cloudy.

Fill the Trays

Try to fill no more than 3/4 of the cube with berries - otherwise they'll try to escape during the freezing. If you want very clear cubes be careful about damaging the berries. I squished some of the raspberries to get a little pink coloring. :)

Pour the prepared water over just so it hits right below the top of the tray - for these trays I boiled about 4 1/2 cups water and had more than enough.

Freeze and Enjoy!

These cubes will probably need at least 6 hours in the freezer - I just let mine go overnight so I wouldn't keep opening the freezer to check. :D
