Zipper Flower Hair Clip
This pretty hair clip is easy and quick to make from bits of zipper and fabric.
I often salvage zippers from old purses and clothing. When you finally have to part with a favourite pair of jeans, this project is a perfect way to be able to continue to wear a little piece of them!
I used similar zipper flowers in my hair and bouquet on my wedding day.
Materials
You'll need:
- zipper
- button for the flower center
- felt for the leaves
- hair clip
- needle and thread
- scissors
You may also want the following optional items:
- embroidery floss
- additional fabric or materials (for this example I have repurposed some of the denim from the same old jeans I got the zipper from, but I've used all sorts of things including mesh and inner tube rubber)
- extra embellishments like beads or metal studs
- pinking shears
Making the Zipper Flower
Cut five equal length pieces of zipper, theses pieces will form the flower's petals.
Sew a running/basting stitch along the bottom edge of one zipper piece. Pull the thread tight and secure with a knot to make a petal.
Repeat for the remaining pieces and then sew the 5 petals together with a few stitches.
Cutting the Leaves and Assembling the Clip
Cut a leaf shape out of a bit of felt.
If you are using additional fabric or embellishments, add them to the leaves.
Add any decorative stitches or embroidery you would like.
Sew the zipper flower to the leaves and then sew on the button centre.
Finally, sew on the hair clip so you can wear the flower in your hair.
Wear It With Pride!
I wore these zipper flowers in my hair for my wedding and even included them in my bouquet.
To use the flower in a bouquet, add a floral wire stem instead of a hair clip.
