Zip Ties + Duct Tape = Tool Belt

I bought duct tape to make an instructable but I did not have a good idea. Then I saw the zip ties challenge and the idea just presented itself.

In this instructable I will show you how I used Zip ties and Duct tape to make a tool belt. I used the Duct tape as the material and the zip ties as the backbone to give the tool belt a rigid structure.

Materials needed:

1. Zip ties I used three sizes, 15, 8 and 4 inches
2. Duct tape, I used white to build the tool belt and camo print for decoration
3. Measuring tape
4. Cutters and scissors

I wanted to make this tool belt for my daughter so I measured her waist and I added few inches to the belt to make it a little bit longer.

I measured 35 inches of duct tape and lined the top and bottom with the 15 inches long zip ties. Then I added another 35 inches to duct tape on top making sure that the sticky sides face inwards. Now I have a 35 inch long belt but I wanted to add color so I added another layer of camo print duct tape on top.

I made the belt buckle entirely out of zip ties, then I covered it with camo duct tape.

First I took a zip tie and cut it just a bit wider than the belt

Then I looped three zip ties around the firs one, two along the edges and one in the middle.

The middle zip tie will be the prong and the others will be part of the frame.

Then I covered the frame with duct tape but I kept the prong uncovered. Then I attached the buckle to the belt with duct tape.

I made two pockets to use as tool holders.

One pocket was about 7 inches wide (about 4 duct tape wide) and 9 inches long. The other pocket is 4 inches wide (the width of 2.5 duct tapes) and 7 inches long.

In order to make the pockets, I stuck two layers of white duct tapes then covered them with the camo tape. When I did the 9 inches long pocket, I used double the length of tape then folded it upon itself to make the pocket. I also left one side of the pocket exposed and made two holes on either side.

I looped two 4 inch zip ties, one in each hole but I did not tighten them. Then I attached the pockets to the belt with 8 inch zip ties. I looped the 8 inch zip ties around the belt and through the 4 inch zip ties attached to the pockets, and I kept them also loose so they can move freely.

I also added a looped zip tie in between the pockets to attach a tool like a hammer.

This is the first time I do a project of this type. There are few things I would do better the next time like use a sturdier zip tie for the belt prong and make the pockets smaller but all in all I enjoyed it and she loved it.
