Yummy Fried Shrimp
In this instructable I will show you how to make fried shrimp. This deep fried shrimp recipe is very easy to make, I had a request to make shrimp, and since fried shrimp is my favorite shrimp dish, that is what I am going to make. If I can do it, you can do it. Let's get started!
Don't forget to follow me on here and check out my other instructables! I have many of them. :)
Follow the easy steps below or watch the short video tutorial or do both! :)
Ingredients
You may print the recipe here if you like.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 to 1 pound of medium shrimp, can use any size, peeled, deveined, precooked (uncooked, you fry at lower temp 350 F for a little longer 3 minutes) (225 to 450g)
- 1/2 tsp. of salt (2.5g)
- 1/2 tsp ground black pepper (2.5g)
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder (2.5g)
- 1 tsp paprika (5g) any other spices you like
- 1 cup all-purpose flour (128g)
- 2 large eggs (beaten with fork or whisk)
- 1 to 1.5 cups of panko bread crumbs (50 to 75g)
- Vegetable oil for frying (enough to cover the bottom of pot at least one inch deep)
Oil and Flour
First let's take a Medium pot or you can use a deep fryer if you like. Pour in enough vegetable or canola oil so it covers at the very least 1 inch deep. Turn the stovetop on to medium heat and while you are preparing the shrimp let it heat up to 350 to 375 degrees F. 176 to 190 C. If you are using completely uncooked shrimp then you will want to cook these at a lower temp for longer time. But if you use the precooked kind that I use, higher temp for shorter time is just fine. Now lets add our paprika to our flour and mix with whisk or fork.
Mix Those Spices
Now let's mix together our remaining spices, salt, pepper, and garlic powder, use a fork to combine those together and then mix it in with the shrimp.
Dip, Dip, and Dip
Now we take a shrimp and dip it into the flour, then into the egg, then into the panko bread crumbs, making sure everything gets covered each time.
Fry Them Up Up Up, Fry Them Up Up Up
Use a candy thermometer to check the oil temp. Then drop in those shrimp and cook for 1 to 2 minutes until nice and golden brown. If they were completely uncooked shrimp at the beginning (like you deveined them yourself, usually grey in color), then use lower heat, and fry them for 3 to 4 minutes, again until golden brown. Adjust the temp if needed. You may need to let the oil come back up to temp after a few batches. When done let the excess oil drain off with a slotted spoon, or tongs and place on a paper towel lined plate to cool and drain. Enjoy those tasty shrimp! :)
