You Light Up My Life

A touch sensor just in time for Valentines!

Gather You Materials

  • 3 pieces of felt, it helps if one is fairly thick
  • 1 LED
  • Conductive thread
  • 2 pieces conductive tape
  • 2032 battery
  • Needle nose pliers
  • Sewing needle
  • Regular sewing thread

Prepare Your Pieces

Make a pattern that you battery will fit in. Cut 2 pieces that size and then a third from the thicker felt that is slightly smaller, with a hole in the middle.

Attach Conductive Tape and LED

Cut pieces of conductive tape about 1/2-3/4” wide, stick one horizontally and one vertically on your 2 outside pieces. Poke your LED through the front piece with the positive lead towards the bottom, curl the leads and sew from the corner of the tape to the positive lead

Make Battery Pocket

Place you middle felt so that the hole is over the conducive tape on the back, sew around the sides and bottom of the hole. Turn it over and make a slit that fits your battery. Reinforce the slit with a blanket stitch.

Attach Negative Lead

Sew from the back conductive tape to where you are level with the negative  LED lead on the front, cross over and attach the negative lead. If you want you can place an embellishment on the front over the hole in the middle piece as a ‘push button’.

Finish Up!

Sew the front to the back, I used a blanket stitch.  Insert the battery between the middle piece and the front with the positive towards the front. Press the middle and light it up!
