Yet Another Cloud Lamp, With Esp8266 Using WLED
A friend showed me ceillar cloud led, i had a bunch of cotton laying around coming from old 1.5€ IKEA pillows.
It should be easily modifiable in fusion360 to make it only with 3d print (i'm lazy).
I'm not responsible if you burn your house, your family, your dog, or your grand ma because my explanation in the project was poorly done and inexact. But everything worked properly for me, and i've let run the cloud for hours without any issue.
It's my first design posted here, be kind u.u
If you make it, remake it, post it, i would love to see your improvements (and they are many)
Few instruction :
top and bottom of the base are 3mm plywood
two middle part of the base 6mm
arm 3mm wood
board support is dynamic-quality print
Supplies
- 1meter leds WS2812 led (i choose the cheapest ones 30led/meter)
- esp8266 d1 mini (usb c for my part but works with micro usb)
- 2x push button that you can find everywhere
- 2x 10k Ohm resistor
- 4x M3 16mm screws with bold
- a bunch of wire
- some tooth pics
- general glue (from kid departement from Action for instance)
- a 3d printer
- a laser cutter
- a computer
- some brain cells
- soldering iron
- hot glue gun
Arm Build
Build the arm with the two inserts. I'm using toothpicks as "screws" to avoid seeing big bold on the arm. With hammer it fit nicely and doesn't need any glue (maybe only on the bottom of the arm, to be sure that it doesn't move)
After first part completed place the led wire that will light the cloud. The length of the wire are depending on the size of cloud you'll make.
the arm lock on the first middle part, and the top wood plank slide directly under the notch. (drill isn't necessary any more, i modified 3d files after taking the picture)
Cloud Build
Build the cloud by passing the led strip in a chaotic way keeping the connector at the top. There are notch to lock the strip. Hot glue cotton directly on the zeppelin shape thing.
Electronic Soldering and Packing
(before solder everything, it would be a nice idea to test and program your ESP8266 on a breadboard... as (totally not) explained in step 6)
Electronic support is printed in dynamic quality. Place buttons through the holes made for. Lock them by bending the button's foots.
Slide the board on the support (it might be necessary to use cutter to enlarge a bit the side lock of the support, if it fits properly board should be squared with support)
Check my poorly made diagram to solder the wire, button are soldered on tx and rx (corresponding on gpio 1-3), they are pull up with resistors, so +3.3v->resistor-buttonwire-button ->> button ->ground.
place the board in the base, a piece of the support goes though the support arm of the cloud.
If everything fit properly, you should see the button centred with the holes in the top plank.

Solder the Led
push the leds wire and solder them, you have some room between the two wood piece to hide cable and give you some room.
Push the Button
past the button with a tiny drop of glue.
screw the base, and you are done.
The Cake Is a Lie
all done, now let's program it with WLED with their web installer
https://install.wled.me/
all doc are on their website.
All done
Here 3 screenshots of my config in wled on Android app.
Led gpio is the one by default gpio2
Button are gpio 1 and 3 as explained previously
Short and long press are preconfigured in wled. Shutdown, color switch, brightness and random effect
I configure the double tap to get back in solid color mode with teh 16 preset
And launch the playlist of effect I created with the 15 preset.
