Hello all!
I'm Caz, from Tregaver Fibre, and this is my first instructable!
A little more about me and my business
I'm a fibre producer in Cornwall UK, and my business specialises in natural fibres and kits. My fibres come from my own non slaughter flock and herd and from farms visited locally.
Our peg looms have been hand made, and our kits come with everything you need to make your own scarf! They can be purchased from our website.
Peg loom weaving is the craft of weaving a fibre (the weft) through strong warp threads. In this case, we used strong cotton warp threads, and used out mohair roving to weave between the pegs.
Our kit comes with full instructions too.
Here is a basic set of instructions on how to make your loom - more detailed instructions are included in our kit.
Thread the lengths of warp threads through the holes the pegs.
As a rule of thumb, you need the length of the scarf you want to make, plus about 50%
Once your loom is set up, you can begin weaving!
Take your weft (in this case it's mohair roving) and put the end of the roving over to the far left of the loom.
Take your roving, and put it behind the first peg, then bring it round the front of the second peg.
Keep doing this til the end of the row - behind and in front, behind and in front.
When you get to the end of the row, take the roving back in the other direction - so turn around the far right hand side peg, and then reverse your weaving, so you go in front/behind etc.
When your loom becomes full, make sure your roving is back at the starting point.
Put one weave back onto the loom - so go round the first peg again.
Then take the peg and gently pull it out of the loom
Pull the warp thread through the weaving you have done, and replace it back in it's hole.
Once you've done this for each peg, carry on weaving until you reach the desired length!
To complete your piece, cut the warp threads and firmly tie them together.
