Using your tape measure follow the cut list and mark all of the lengths you will need. Once all of the boards are marked with the needed lengths, take the circular saw and cut the boards to the appropriate length.

Build Top and Bottom Fame

Upper and lower.jpg

After all boards are cut, take the 68” and 21” boards and lay them on the floor in the vertical position. Take one 21” board and screw it into one end of the 68” board once that is done grab the other side of the 21” board and screw it into the other 68” board all in the vertical position. Once the one side is done, do the same to the other side. When screwing the boards together use two #9 3-⅛” screws starting them in the 21” board then screw them into the 68” board.

Repeat steps above to create the bottom shelf frame

Attach Legs to Frame

Bench

Take the four 40” legs and measure 15 inches from one end then make a mark with your pencil. Once that is done take your top shelf and one leg. Making sure the leg is flush with the top and side of the shelf use 3 screws and attach them together. Once one leg is done attach another leg on the opposite end of the top shelf.

With two legs attached, take the bottom shelf and prop it up under the 2 existing legs. With the marks you made earlier 15” up from the bottom, line the top of the bottom shelf up with the mark and attach it using 3 screws like the previous step.

Flip the frame completely over and repeat steps above to attach the other two legs.

Attach Plywood to Shelf Frame

Take the 21” x 71”  piece of plywood and slide it into the bottom shelf. Once all edges are flush and aligned properly take the #8 1-¼” deck screws and screw the plywood all the way around to the bottom frame.

Once the bottom shelf is screwed down take the 27” x 83” piece of plywood and lay it on top of the bench. To align it properly choose one side to be the front and one side to be the back. Once decided, take the plywood and push it towards the front so the plywood is flush with the back of the bench. In the front the plywood should overhang 4-½”. Then align the sides, take your tape measure, and move the plywood left or right to allow 6” of overhang on the left and right side. Once aligned properly take the #8 1-¼” deck screws and screw the top plywood down to the top shelf frame.
