I bought a scroll saw about a month ago, I have been waiting to try it out. I Finally had some time to mess a out with it and wanted to start off with a simple project. So I made this silhouette of a cat that will fit on the trim of any door. I love cats and I love woodworking so I'm glad I could do a project that includes both my loves in life.
Tools & Materials.
1. Half inch wood (I used plywood)
2. Cat outline
3. Scroll Saw
4. Sandpaper
5. Carpet Tape (optional)
Cutting the Wood.

I used thin wood for this project so that I could do it more quickly. With a scroll saw the thicker wood you have the slower you have to cut it. Since this was my first time using the saw I was a little nervous. Once I really started cutting the cat out it was easy. I just went slow and let the blade do the cutting. I love how the scroll saw can cut out tight curves. The only problem I had was cutting out the inside of the tail curve, for some reason the wood didn't want to cut. Overall, it came out great for it being my first project. I didn't have to sand too much.
Sanding & Finishing.

I used 120 grit sandpaper to shape a couple of the curves so it wasn't as jagged. I really only spent about 5 mins doing this since It was gonna sit high up on the wall. I used this awesome spray paint/lacquer to finish the cat. It both paints and protects the wood.
Since I was putting the cat above my closet door I wanted to make sure it wouldn't fall and hit me on the head. So I used a piece of carpet tape to secure it to the wall and that stuff is strong!
