Wooden USB Stick Case
This is my instructable to make a wooden USB stick case.
I had a usb stick but the plastic case was broken. The stick still worked and I needed a new case. That´s when I came up with the thought that I could built a wooden USB Stick case. This is what turned out of this thought.
What You Need
Here is what you need:
- a usb stick without a case
- wood pieces (I used wooden craft sticks)
- two long sticks (150x20x2 mm)
- two small sticks(55x6x2 mm)
- a saw
- wood adhesive
- a pencil
Glue
The wood: You need to have some thin wood otherwise the case will be very thick and will look akward. I used wooden crafting spatulas that where about 2mm thick.
You can get these wood crafting spatulas at a crafting store or on the internet.
Messure how big your cuboid should be and cut the pieces of wood to the right size (only the wide side don´t cut the long side yet). If you use wooden crafting spatulas you might not need to cut them and they might have the right wideth already.
Glue the pieces together like on picture 1. Let it dry. Look at the tube to know how long it should dry. It depends on the wood adhesive you are using.
When the pieces are dryed and fixed cut one side (picture 4). Now you can cut the two spatulas at the other end. You don´t need to measure yet how long it should acutally be, make sure that it is not to short. Just cut the other ending to make the whole thing handier.
The Ending
Cut out a bottom piece for the cuboid and glue it to the cuboid.
Let it dry.
Fitting
Put the USB stick next to the cuboid and mark where you have to cut it to get it to the final right size. Make sure that the usb stick sticks out enough that you can plug it into an usb port.
Now cut the cuboid to the right lenght.
Grinding
Now that it has the right size you need to grind it and soften the edges. I used sandpaper (first sandpaper with grain size 60 and 120 for the edges and then 240).
More Glue
Put the USB stick into the wooden case and glue the sides to the wood. You can get the overflowing wood adhesive off with a pick.
Let it dry.
