Wooden Rocking Chair | 3D Printed Hinges + Laser Cutting

3D Printed Furniture | DIY Laser Cut Wood Chair | Woodworking

We've teamed up with Proto3000, our 3D printing distribution partners, and Play Wood, a 3D hinge company from Italy to make this amazing rocking chair. We show how two technologies, laser cutting and 3D printing, can come together and create remarkable projects.

You can download the artwork files attached either in CorelDraw or Adobe Illustrator. The PDF shows how to assemble the chair together.

The 3D printed hinges can fit wood thicknesses from 16mm (0.6") - 19mm (3/4"). We've used 3/4" Baltic Birch Plywood (48" x 24" sheets) with our SP500 laser (200 watt) to do the cutting. Most clients may not have such a powerful laser, in which case we suggest getting 2 sheets of 3/8" thickness, cut them on the laser (or CNC) machine and glue them together using wood glue.

Assembling the Pieces

Place two pieces of wood between on each side of the connectors (based on the assembly PDF) and tighten it with a hex wrench or drill bit. We suggest having two people working on the assembly. Start with the larger pieces and legs and then attach the back and arm-rest.
