For a simple wooden toy/decoration. These examples are Pokémon for my nephews.

Scrap Wood Is Great

For this project any scrap wood will work. Figure out what Figure you would like to copy and get started

Wood Burning in the Design

Use a wood burning to go over your tracing. Go slowly on the outline. It will help you see it and follow with the saw.

Finding Your Pictures

Simply Google type of Pokémon or figure with coloring book added to the search and it will generally simple and minimal pictures.

Print, cut out and tape on top of the carbon paper to the wood.

Trace using the steel ball tipped pen. (4 pens with 8 different ball sizes come with many carbon paper orders on Amazon

Cutting It Out

I'm using a harbor freight scroll saw. Not the best in the world but hasn't let me down yet.
You can possibly use many saws for this but it's what I have.

Clean Them and Stain Them

Now use some sanding skills to clean them up.

Any finish is possible but remember thin and skinny parts like tails arms and legs are fragile. Hopefully this will help someone with some cheap Christmas presents
