I designed a wooden headphone stand to hold my headphones and keep my desk organized while also improving the look of my desktop.

Supplies

TOOLS:

Clamps

Tape Measure / Ruler (In inches)

Right Angle / Square

Drill / Drill Press

Countersink Bit

Miter Saw

Table Saw

Band Saw

Sanding tool (Preferably Electric)

MATERIALS:

Four 2'' Nails

Wood Glue

Stain

Paint

KILZ Primer/Sealer/Stainblocker

Two 6'' x 10'' pieces of 1'' mdf (Medium Density Fiberboard)

Two 9¾'' x 2½'' pieces of 1'' mdf (Medium Density Fiberboard)

One 4'' x 1½'' piece of 1'' mdf (Medium Density Fiberboard)

One 6'' x 10'' piece of 1'' Pine

One 7¾'' x 3'' piece of 1'' Pine

One 2'' x 4¾'' piece of 1'' Pine

Base MDF Pieces

Start by cutting the two 6'' x 10'' Pieces of the 1'' mdf.

Depending on what board of mdf you are taking from, either a miter saw or table saw would be best for this task.

Side Triangles

Next, cut the one 4'' x 1½'' piece of the 1'' mdf, but cut it into two equivalently-sized triangles.

The rectangle would be best cut with the miter saw or table saw, but the diagonal cut would be most safely done with a band saw.

Stalk Sides Pt. 1

Next, cut the two 9¾'' x 2½'' pieces of the 1'' mdf.

Again, the miter saw or the table saw would be best here.

Stalk Sides Pt. 2

Cut both pieces into the one shown above using the band saw.

Add the bevel in the second picture with the miter saw. (On the right)

Make sure to make each piece a mirror image of the other, do not make them identical.

Base Pine Pieces

Next, cut one 6'' x 10'' piece of the 1'' pine.

Base Assembly

Clamp the 6'' x 10'' pine board in between the two 6'' x 10'' mdf boards, make sure they are aligned, and then countersink the four screws as shown above on all four corners.

Then we will add a bevel tilting away from the screws on the shorter two sides, as shown above.

This is also best done with a table saw.

Pine Stalk Pieces

Next, to make the hook, we take the one 2'' x 4¾'' piece of 1'' Pine and cut it on the bandsaw as marked above.

(The hook needs to be made with the grain running longways, so make sure to cut it that way.)

Then, we take the one 7¾'' x 3'' piece of 1'' Pine and cut it on the bandsaw as shown in the second picture.

All non-right angles shown here are 45°.

Final Touches

Next, we take the pieces we assembled in Step 6 apart again, and seal all of the edges of the mdf boards with KILZ original Primer/Sealer/Stainblocker and wait for it to dry.

Sand all of the pine boards in the meantime with a high-grit sandpaper. (150+ grit)

When dry, it is time to lightly sand the edges of the mdf, wipe any dust off, paint all of the mdf boards the color of your choice, and then stain the pine boards with a complementary accent color.

Finish the pine boards with a polyurethane or wax sealer.

Wait for everything to dry.

Finally, reassemble the three boards screwed together, and glue all of the rest as shown above. (You may need clamps)

Make sure everything is centered, and when the glue dries, your headphone stand is now complete!
