Wooden Guitar Pick

I came up with the idea for these picks, since I was looking for a birthday present for a friend of mine. I wanted to gift him with something really special, something he isn't able to get himself in the next store.
This Instructable is supposed to show you how to make your very own wooden picks. They are easily made, pretty cheap, nevertheless looking valuable and can be done in under half an hour.

First of all I recommend using a template, to get the perfect form out of the wood, otherwise it might end up as miserable as my first try.
The obvious way is to use another pick made of plastic, if you do not have any, you can just print it out.

I used this:

Next you get yourself some scrap wood, draw on the outline and make some rough cuts.

For a sharp outline I used the sander. If you are working with a similar tool, you will be better off using some safety gloves, because otherwise you might sand off some bits of your fingers, due to the size of the pick.

To create the perfect thickness and edges, I started with 80 grit sandpaper and repeated everything with 120, 180 and 240 grit. This step is probably a bit repetitive, though it is going to be worth it in the end.

Once the basic form is finished, you can pretty much do with it whatever you want, spray it, paint it, engrave it, use different types of wood,..., whatever you can imagine.
