Wooden Buddha Lamp

A friend wanted a Buddha themed lamp. At first I was planning to make something out of paper. But suddenly a friend mentioned about a professional wood cutter who can create awesome designs on a scroll saw. Had a visit to that guy and when I saw his art forms, I was like awe with the outputs. So finally I thought of making a wooden lamp.

First Designs

I ran back home and and quickly designed a basic design on my age old laptop. Got it printed. Each design is close to 9inch by 6 inches.

Printing or Cutting

When I showed him the design, he was smiling. He said that the design is possible but it will take time. It took him around a week with his other tasks to complete the cutting. They came out as I expected. I also got a base cut which around 6.5 inches x 6.5 inches.

Gluing

Used white plastic sheets for the thin film. Got it from the nearest electrician. They used these sheets to secure the motor windings. Used white pva glue to secure the plastic in place. After the glue dries stuck the loose ends with superglue.

Final Assembly

Glued everything (all the 4 faces) in place. Also added wooden pegs at the bottom with glue gun. Did a faux wood texture onto the whole assembly and you are done. Added a lamp socket and wire to plug.

My friend looks happy.
