Wood Platform Bed

This is a wooden platform bed for a full size mattress.

Introduction

The end game for this project should result in a full platform bed frame that will house a full mattress. This purpose of this instructable is a step by step manual for anyone looking to build a bed frame. Someone looking to build a bed frame for cheaper than what you could buy one from at the store.

Material/Cut List

Materials Needed

4 – 2x6 @ 8 feet long or stud length

2 – 2x2 @ 8 feet long

1 – 2x4 @ 10 feet long

1 – 1x2 @ 8 feet long

3 – 1x3 @ 8 feet long

Additional 1x3 boards, bed slat system or box spring

2 ½” wood screws

2” wood screws for screwing down slats if using

Cut List

2 – 2x6 @ 75”

2 – 2x6 @ 57”

2 – 2x2 @ 75”

1 – 2x4 @ 75”

2 – 1x3 @ 79”

1 – 1x2 @ 54”

1 – 1x3 @ 54”

4 – 2x4 @ 7”

14 – 1x3 @ 54 OR Box spring measuring 54” x 75” max overall

Build the Frame

Build the 2x6 frame as shown above.

Attach the Cleats

Set the Cleats down on the long sides 1 and 1/4 inch down from the top. (As shown above)

Middle Support

Set the middle support down 1 and 1/4 inch from the top as well. (As shown above)

Legs

Attach all 4 legs on the bottom of all cleats. (As Shown above)

Finish

Add the trim to the tops of the sides and add the slats. (As shown above)

Final Product

Your final product can be sanded down and painted or stained depending on your needs. Above we painted the bed black to match our Ohio State themed room.
