Circus tool

We created a circus tool. The tool helps to learn to juggle while rolling, learning the right steps, this can be done step by step. It can be adapted to the skills the person has.

To help roll the ball (this can sometimes be a bit tricky). We made a kind of slide where you can put the ball in so that the ball follows a traject.

Here is a video of it in action:

https://youtu.be/U7bua3jujbM

We number-coded it:

Level 1 is easy

- The board has a small slope (level 1)

- The slide has a small slope (level 1)

- The balls come back to the middle so they can be picked up easily.

Level 2 is slightly more difficult

- The board has a bigger slope (level 2)

- The slide has a bigger slope (level 2)

- The balls come back to the middle so they can be picked up easily or the balls can already cross (you do this by changing the arc at the top)

Level 3 is difficult

- The board has a very large slope (level 3) (So the balls return quickly)

- The slide has a very large slope (level 3) or can already be rolled without a slide.

- The balls cross so that it has all the effect of real juggling.

Everything can always be adapted to the needs of the person learning to juggle. You can adjust the slope of the board, adjust the slope of the slide or without the slide. You can adjust the arc at the top so the ball goes to the middle or they can also cross.

The total cost of this is around 80 euros.

Here is the tutorial, how to learn to juggle:

Supplies

  • contact glue
  • 8 hinges
  • screws
  • elastic
  • wooden chipboard (2680x1100x25 mm)
  • wooden dowels
  • sandpaper for sander
  • white paint
  • velcro
  • jeans

  • drill
  • panel saw
  • sander
  • screwdriver
  • sewing machine
  • a table
  • sawing machine

Board

Cut the board into pieces, you do this as in the drawing.

Fabric

jeans.jpg
jeans2.jpg
jeans.png

Cut the fabric, here we used an old pair of jeans. The fabric should be fairly firm.

Once you have cut out all the pieces, you can sew them together to form a long strip with the jeans.

You can find the template here:

Border

zagen.jpg
3.png

From the drawing you can see that a long strip has been taken, from this we are going to make the borders of the circus tool.

You will need 52 small blocks (blocks of 7x2x2,5 cm) & 2 large ones (7x95x2,5).

Cut as shown in the drawing.

Border

gaten boren.jpg
gaten boren hulpstuk.jpg

When the little blocks have been cut for the border, holes must be drilled in them. (As shown in the drawing)

Do this with 52 little blocks.

It is always handy when you have to do so many that you make an attachment so that you always drill in the same place. This makes the work go faster and easier.

Border

blokjes weven.jpg
blokjes op een rij.jpg
10.png
16.png

Thread the pieces onto the elastic thread so they stay together and can be pulled closed. So that when the string is pulled, the curve comes into the border.

Only thread the small pieces on the wire, at the large piece there should be no wire.

The bigger part has 16 pieces and the smaller part has 10 pieces threaded, do this 2 times.

Then we will glue the pieces (threaded) onto the fabric this is done with wood glue (contact glue).

16 along one side, then the long board and then 10 on the other side.

Do this twice. (Because you have two borders)

To help with this, take a piece that you always stick between the pieces to place them at the same distance.

Painting

Sanding everything smooth to get ready for painting.

When each panel has been sanded, they can be painted. The edges are also painted.

Of the borders, the side with the fabric is not painted.

Movable Juggling Board

scharnieren.jpg
scharnieren2.jpg
hinges.png

To make the board (into a box), we need hinges that make the board fold open.

We will screw these on.

Traject

pin boord lijmen.jpg

gaten boren boorden.jpg
bordergaatjes.png

To have a clear traject with our board, we are going to use dowels to place the borders in the board.

For this, we still need to drill some holes in the borders and in the board.

You are also going to drill holes in the board, you do this by trial and error, the holes should come so that at one hole the ball comes straight towards (yellow hole) you and at the other holes (blue) that the ball goes at an angle.

Here you already have a blue and yellow circle near the drilled hole. This is for better explanation in the manual, to know where to place the border.

Put dowels with glue in the border, to place them in the bord.

The drawing shows were you drill the holes in the border.

Height

htoren.jpg
honder2.jpg

velcro2.png

To adjust the height of the board, we made blocks. These are the (10x10x2,5) blocks 12 of them.

You glue these together in groups of 2 on top of each other and then between each group of blocks you glue velcro so they are stackable.

Place the velcro in the middle of the block so that the tower can still move a bit (move with the angle of the board). As you can see in the picture.

Also place velcro on the board where you want to place the blocks so they are firmly fixed.

Slide

To make our slide where the ball will roll in, we need these parts:

  • wooden board
  • wooden dowels
  • wooden edges
  • wood nails
  • glue
  • hinge
  • screws

Cut the parts as shown in the photo's & drawings.

Cut the pieces as shown in the drawing and photos.

dinohoogte6.jpg
dinohoogte.jpg

At the 8x8x8 parts, now make holes as shown in the drawing and the photo, diameter 1 cm. You do this at the top and bottom of 2 blocks and then only at the bottom of 2 blocks and at the top of 2 blocks.

In the holes you are going to put dowels in the top and glue them down.

You can number the blocks so it helps with the levels of difficulty.

6 blocks are to make 2 slides.

Slide

slide.png
dino4.jpg
dino5.jpg
dino6.2.jpg
dino6.jpg

To make the slider, take the wide board and thus nail the thinner sticks onto it. Do this twice. Like on the drawing

Slide

scharnier.png
dino7.jpg

To fold the slider and place it easily, a hinge needs to be attached with screws, you do this at the top block (where there are only holes in the bottom of the block) and at the slider.

Slide

Now you can assemble and use the slide.

You can paint the slide white to match the ensemble.

To know where the slides must go, you can draw a box on the board, to have easy placing of the slide.

Put All the Pieces Togheter

Put all the pieces together.

Open the box so that it becomes a plate, turn the plate over.

To adjust the height, you can adjust underneath with the blocks with velcro.

The borders come into the board by inserting the pins through the board.

The slides are placed on the squares provided so that they are correctly in position.

As pre-shown in the video.

Juggling

Now you can learn to juggle, step by step.

Here is a video of our project where a person juggles with 7 balls on our board.
