The main idea is to create an awesome piece of decoration that represented the passion for space and the idea that a wall can't divide the curiosity of what is beyond the Earth's atmosphere, for that I chose a SSTO (Single Stage To Orbit) type of space shuttle. Since I don´t own a 3D printer (yet) I can´t show to you the finish physical model, however, with your imagination you can create from a cool lamp to a awesome 2m tall ornamental piece using the main model.

Sketch the Ship.

First I created a sketch using some references from Sci-fi and modern space shuttles.

Then I created a CAD model using Fusion 360 and using the sketch that I made in the previous step.

I also made some renders to give you an idea of what it looks like with the right colors.

Main Model Idea

You can scale the main model using your favorite 3D slicer and print the model hollow.

Since the model is high detailed with landing gear and working flaps, you can pose the prop to your liking.

You could use a wood base and create a mock-up of a landing zone using some sand or dirt and paint. Then you can use a clear tube with some cotton and spray paint to give the illusion that the ship is taking off.and hiding all the electronics in the wood base or inside the shuttle.

You also can:

Stick some servos and electric motors to make it fly.

Make an awesome desk lamp printing the model with translucent filament and putting some LEDs strips inside the model.

Making a pot using the cargo area for the dirt and a plant.

3D Files

The first file contains the whole ship with all the parts while the other files are individual pieces.

So, what are you waiting for? grab your 3D printer and let your imagination take off.

Happy journey, cheers.
