Witch of the Woodlands Demon

I was searching the internet for a Halloween project when I came across images from an 18th century chapbook called The Witch of the woodlands[1] which featured a funky looking demon surrounded by four witches and I thought it would be fun to have a go making it on the scroll saw.

Supplies

Piece of scrap wood approximately 4 6/10" Wide 5 1/2" Long and 12/16" Wide

Scroll saw, number 7 blade

Painters tape

Glue stick

Paper pattern

White paint

Brush

I sketched out a version of the demon scaled to the size of my piece of wood onto a piece of paper (PDF below).

I covered my piece of wood in tape then glued my sketch on top of the tape, this makes removal a lot easier I think the tail would be vulnerable to breaking if you glue the pattern directly to the wood and then had to sand it off.

I carefully cut around the sketch outline and then peeled the sketch from the wood. The feet turned out to be the trickiest parts to cut out the toe's becoming more rounded not spiky.

Finally I painted on some lines to add detail and allowed to dry.
