Winter Scene Bauble Ornament

This is a great, fun way to make a boring old bauble more exciting, and a great way to upcycle unwanted baubles.

What you'll need:

  • Plastic bauble
  • Small plastic animal
  • Paper clay
  • Paint
  • Trims
  • Skewer
  • Candle

Burn Your Bauble

Light a candle and hold the bauble slightly over the flame. A dent should start to form; stick the skewer in to pierce the plastic. Continue burning until your desired size and shape of hole is dented in. Use all-purpose scissors to cut out this area while it is still soft and pliable. Heat the edges of the hole on the flame and bend them in, but be careful not to burn your fingers.

Paint the Bauble

Paint the outside of your bauble white, and the inside whatever colour you like. I painted mine a light blue. I found it easiest to paint the bauble when it wasn't on a flat surface, so I taped a chopstick to my lamp, and taped the bauble to the chopstick.

Add the Air-dry Clay

Press some air dry clay (I used paper clay) into the base of the ornament, creating a flat surface. Ensure that your figure can stand and is at your desired height, and press it into the clay slightly to create footprints, keeping your desired positioning for when you glue it in. Allow to dry.

Add Your Braid and Your Creature

Add some braid around the edge of the hole to cover the raw edge. Finally, glue your plastic animal into the footprints you made, and you're done!
