I have created a warm and cossy hat for the winter by using an scarf I was not using at all, the linning of an old and torn bomber jacket, and of course a lot of imagination.

Hope you enjoy the project as mucha as I did and you try to make it real!

Supplies

Materials I used for the project:

- Maroon red scarff (I hadn’t used it in years)

- Golden fabric (I have used the inner linning of an old and torn bomber jacket)

- Maroon red thread

- White thread

- Paper

- Plastic sheet

- Sewing machine

- Sewing pins

- Piece of chock

- Ruler

- Scissors

- 3D pencil + PLA filament

Step 1: Patterns and Fabric Cutting

First draw the patterns in paper and cut them. Then draw them in the frabric with the chock and cut them.

· From the maroon red fabric you need three different patters:

-Pattern 1 (petal shape, 30mm-125mm x 200mm , cut 6 pieces)

-Pattern 2 (cap peak shape, diameter 220mm, cut 2 pieces)

-Pattern 3 (rectangular shape, 730mm x 50mm, cut 1 piece)

· From the golden fabric you need two different patterns:

-Pattern 4 (rectangular shape, 110mm x 370mm, cut 2 pieces)

-Pattern 5 (circular shape, diameter 220mm, cut 1 piece)

Step 2: Sewing the Outter Part

Now that we have all the different pieces cutted, we start sewing, with the sewing machine, the 6 petal shape pieces one to another, until we have them all stitched together. We have obtained now the head structure.

We continue by sewing the rectagular shape to the structure we have just stitched.

Now we sew both hat peak pieces together and when finished turn it inside out.

Step 3: Preparing the Cap Peak

Draw the shape of the cap peak in the plastic sheet and cut it (its shape should be 8 mm smaller than the fabric pattern).

As the plastic sheet does not mantain the desired peak shape, I have used a 3D pencil (with PLA filament )to create an structure around the plastic in order to give it the curved shape.

*If you don't have a 3D pencil, you can try to modify its shape by heat with a hair dryer.

Once the cap peak has chilled, we put inside its fabric piece and sew around it in order to set it fixed.

Now you have to sew the peak to the principal structure of the cap (created before), leave 2 cm between the petals and the peak.

The outter part is ready!

Step 4: Sewing the Inner Part

We have to sew both rectangular pieces to the circular piece. If it looks like a hat, the inner part is ready!

Step 5: Join Inner and Outter Parts

We have to make a hem on the golden fabric and another hem on the red rectangular fabric. You don´t need to sew these hems, you can set them together with pins.

Once done, it's time to sew the union of both inner and outter pieces with the sewing machine, and... FINISHED!!
