Winter Bucket Hat From Old Blanket

Hi am Zuri and I am a 12 year old who loves to sew. I Also love a good bucket hat. In the winter it’s quite hard to wear bucket hats because I so cold. I’m going to change that. I am using this 100% polyester blanket that I got stained. It feels like I’m wearing a winter hat but I’m actually wearing a bucket hat. It’s a great project for the season because you don’t have to go and get fabric you could just use your old blankets. If you don’t wanna spend all this time selling it you can buy it from my shop. Click me for if you want to buy the bucket hat. It will be available soon. This is a beginner friendly project but it might not turn out perfect. The first bucket hat I made the lines were crooked.

Cut out blanket from pattern. You need one circle top, two headband pieces, and four brim pieces. The brim and head band pieces have to be cut on folded fabric.

Take 2 headband pieces and pin two short sides together. Sew on the pined edge. MAKE SURE THE GOOD SIDE OF THE FABRIC IS FACING IN.

Take the sew headband and circle top with the good side facing in and pin. The headband is slightly tilted and you want to pin the shorter side. If there is extra fabric after you go all the way around. take the lines you just sewed in the last step and make your seem allowance larger. Now sew around by the pins. Flip right side out and Try on and make sure the top of hat fits.

Take brim pieces and lay 2 with the good side facing inward. And pin so you can sew on the longest side. Do this again for the other piece. Now so the edges. Now take the two sewed brim pieces lay them flat with good side facing in. They aren’t gonna come completely flat because it is curved. Now pin the shorter ends together. Try to line up the lines the middle sew lines together. (This means the line you just sewed). Now sew the ends. You should follow the curve when you sew. Now turn it right side out and try to flatten the brim. Now it’s time to make the sew lines that go around. Start where are you just fold it and line it up and sew all the way around it’s OK if it’s not perfect. Once you reach back to the start stop your stitch line and start another one about 3/4 of an inch next to it. Keep this pattern until you get all the way to the top of your brim. These lines helps sturdy your hat so It doesn’t look like a sun hat.

Now lay top of hat on a table and put brim around it. Put both the rough edges from brim and top next to each other and pin. Now so where the pin is. When you turn it right side up make sure that there is no gaps from where the brim Connects to the top. If there is any take the seam allowance in a little More from where the connection is.

This it’s probably the easiest step. All you have to do is try it on. Thank you so much for using my instructable.
