Hi,

This post will help you get into wine making by starting producing wine on a small scale with the usage of the attached kit and some basic materials.

we'll ferment fruit in the traditional method but Instead of starting by making a batch of 50 liters, and buying expensive equipment we'll start with some used wine bottles and the 3D printed kit.

In the next steps we'll go through the process of wine making and the usage of this kit.

disclaimer: I'm not a wine maker, I'm a design student, if you've noticed I've made a mistake in the wine making process feel free to let me now, this project is about making wine making accessible for everyone, and open source so people could improve it as they see fit.

Cheers!

What Other Materials Do I Need

I've separated this part in two: The materials you'll need to complete the kit, and the ingredients you'll need to make the wine. Let's start with the first.

An empty wine bottle and it's cork.

Two O-rings: 19 mm diameter and 34 mm diameter.

An 5*5 cm piece of breathing fabric (one that air can flow through).

A wooden spike, like the ones used in BBQ, to be used with the stirring head.

The Wine Making Ingredients

For making the wine you'll need the following ingredients (the amounts here are for one bottle)

500 g puree of you're chosen fruit.

1/2 g of yeast.

5 g sugar

1/2 teaspoon of Sodium bi-sulfate.

Important Note

Before starting the process you need to sanitize all the instruments that we'll use in the process.

To do so you soak them in a container full of water and a spoon of sodium Bi-sulfate.

The Process

Pure the fruit puree into the bottle using the funnel, fill the rest of the bottle with lukewarm water mixed with the sugar and the sodium bi-sulfate, and let it sit for 6 hours.

In a different cup mix the yeast with 50 cc of lukewarm water and add Kurt of sugar, and let it sit for 15 minutes.

After 15 minutes add the yeast to the bottle, stir with the spoon and cover the bottle using the filter and fabric.

Stir it bottle twice a day for the next 14 days.

After 14 replace the filter head with the valve using the funnel and straw, make sure the funnel is sealed and fill it with water up to the mark, and leave it for 30 days.

After 30 days the wine is ready, you can filter out the solids and seal it with the cork.

Cheers!
