Wildfires
Wildfires are an devastating natural disaster that consume hundreds of millions of acres of lands and kills many. It also is very damaging to the infrastructure surrounding it. Many lose Their houses and shops Due to wildfires. The local economy is widely Damaged Due to it. Wildfires are Frequently seen in California, Oregon, New south-wales, Queensland and other wildfire prone regions. I felt sorry for those who had lost their Homes due to wildfires. Then after seeing about this competition, It Motivated Me to create home resilient to wildfires. So this is the design I created which involves some technologies that help to keep the house a safe place from the high Temperature wildfires
Excavation
For designing This House, i have tried to keep much of it under Ground. This helps to prevent structural failure. So for creating the lower level of this house, The site has to excavated and the soil removed is to be used for Construction.
The depth should be of about 20 feet.
Adding Foundation
Foundations are necessary for a structurally sound buildings. So the foundations are dug deep into the ground at about 15 feet
Building Basement
Basement will house most of the rooms of the house. It is designed to secure the residents in case of adverse events and structural failure. It also houses the main systems of the house like the Water pump, or the HVAC systems and electrical systems. There will also be The battery which power the house for upto 5 days in case of power cut.
Building the Ground Floor
The ground floor has the living room, kitchen, Bedroom, Store room and the stairwell. It also has Windows And door. The space between the house and the moat is open for recreational purposes.
Building the Moat.
Moat is an essential part of the house. It prevents the wild fire from coming close to the house. In adverse events, the House is designed to withstand the worst of wildfires.
The Wall
The concrete walls are in built with coils which circulates water around for preventing structural failure. This cools down the walls even though they are designed to withstand the worst of wild fires. The walls are made from high alumina concrete and bricks. The concrete is designed to be structurally safe in temperatures excess of 1000 degree Celsius.
Location
This house is designed to be in a dense forest like the ones in California. As the area is very dense in vegetation, some of the vegetation is cleared in a 5ft perimeter of the house.
Lifestyle
As the house should not only be structuraly sound but also a fun place to live in, i have tried to make it as similliar as possible a normal house. It has all of the features of a normal house
Designing Process
When i was seeing the news of these wildfires and their adverse effects on life and economy, i had mind stormed about such a house. Then this competition helped me to change this to reality. I had many major setbacks during the project like the design being deleted and many more, but i had learnt how to fight them and create it again. This had helped me to learn about how to employ an engineering mindset and a designing competition. I had used Revit and Fusion extensively during the project which had helped me a lot to create these intricate designs.
Conclusion
This project helps enable safeguard billions from wildfires and saves many more houses from being burnt down. This helps us to stabilize the economies of places like north California, etc. I would also like to thank Autodesk for providing free access to such great software's . Autodesk softwares have helped me very much in this project. Thanks for reading. If i win this contest, i will use the scholarship for my Further education
