Wii Remote As Lightgun With Iron Sight / Line of Sight Accuracy on Windows PC - 2 IR LED Tracking System - Geekonarium.de

Lichtknarre usb WII Sensor bar Compatibility

Use the 2 LED Tracker of the Lichtknarre-tool with your Wii-remote to control your PC with the accuracy of iron sight / line of sight. The cursor is located where you aim.

Features:

  • Only needs to be calibrated once in theory.
  • The user can move to a certain degree. It is not necessary to stand exactly in the spot where the calibration was made.
  • Wii controllers can be quickly connected without the need for Windows menus.
  • Easy to use with other games through vjoy2-, viGem-, or mouse-plugin.
  • Yes you can rotate the Wii controller. It takes about 1 second for the programme to readjust. But this is actually no problem in use.
  • The gun only needs to be 2.0 - 2.4 times as far away as the display is wide. The limitation of the 2 LEDs is that you have to stand far enough away so that you can always see the 2 LEDs from the camera and still aim everywhere. Therefore, homemade LEDs placed in the middle of the screen are better than the sensor bar.
  • Play multiplayer with viGem or vjoy2!

Info for Tutorial

Sometimes you see different versions of the tool in the screenshot. Right top you see the version.

Buy Usb Bluetooth Radio

Make sure Bluetooth radio is compatible with wii remote.

You can check here: http://wiibrew.org/wiki/List_of_Working_Bluetooth_...

I use "TP-Link UB400 Nano USB Bluetooth 4.0".

Make sure the radio is plugged in.

Build 2 IR LEDs or Mount Sensor Bar

[Tutorial] Build LEDs for Lichtknarre 4 LED tracking system

You can build two IR LEDs your own or use the Wii Sensor bar. It is only important that the LEDs are aligned horizontally with the monitor. In normal cases Mayflash Dolphinbar is not working, but common usb wii bars or the original wii bar. (Update: Seems like LightGunMan on YouTube found a solution to use Mayflash Dolphinbar. Added Info about this at the end of the Tutorial. Step 15)

If you build your own infrared LEDs, they can be attached to the monitor in many different configurations. Look at the pictures as examples.

As you can see, the LEDs can actually be placed however you want, as long as they are aligned horizontally. This also means that the Wii Sensor Bar can be on top of the monitor or underneath it.

The LEDs do not necessarily have to be centred on the monitor. Never move the LEDs after calibrating, else the calibration will become invalid.

If you build your own infrared LEDs you can watch the video, which is actually for the 4 IR LED Tracker. However, the same principle can also be applied to the 2 LED Tracker. Use the LED configurator shown in the video. But there are far much more easy solutions on youtube with for example USB+LEDs. But beware you need Infrared LEDs.

Since version 0.9.8 you can use the BAD-LED mode for low powered IR-LEDs also. This steals an almost not noticeable/configurable amount of frames for interpolation.

Installation

Download the software and Install:

https://geekonarium.de/en/lichtknarre-lightgun/

Activate 2 IR LED Tracker

activate2TrackingSystem.png

Activate the 2 IR LED Tracker if this has not already been done. There will be many more trackers in the future, but this one is for wii and 2 LEDs.

Connect Wii Remotes

connectWiis.png

Hold 1 and 2 until the Wiis are listed in the application. It is not necessary to use windows tools to connect. It may take up to 18 seconds for the Wii to be listed. However, it is better than using the Windows tools to configure.

You can connect at least 4 Wii-remotes by holding 1 and 2. All Wii remotes that have been connected will be assigned to a player. The application remembers which device was assigned to which player if you want it to.

If you have activated "Player remembers device", the device is assigned to the player if the player has already been assigned the device once. The device-to-player assignment can be changed by using the arrow buttons next to the device.

Calibrate the Gun

defaultGunCalibration2LED.png

Click on the button "default gun-calibration". After that the black screen should appear from the screen. Follow the instructions.

This will defined the default calibration for all new connecting wii remotes. Atm it is not possible to calibrate each wii remote individual.

You can also edit your settings after calibrating by pressing the "edit default calibration data" button.

I didn't had time to test the lence factor in detail. But will adapt to this tutorial here soon.

Game-Offset Calibration

gameoffset.jpg

Sometimes the games are not fully scaled over the whole surface of the screen and have an edge. In this case, you can use the LED Offset configuration to adapt to this circumstance. We refer to this configuration as the LED gaming offset.

You can set the values individually for all LEDs. Top, bottom, left and right. (Look Screenshot)

To calculate the values, take a look at the following tutorial:

https://geekonarium.de/en/what-is-ir-offset-and-wh...

The IR LED offset is only relevant for the 4 LED tracking system. For the 2 LED tracking system IR-Offset is already a part of normal calibration.

Adjust Connector Plugins for Gaming.

connectorPlugin.png

You can use the default "Mouse"-Connetorplugin to controll the mouse with the first wii remote or you can goto http://vjoystick.sourceforge.net/site/index.php/81... install and configure and use the vjoy-Plugin to bring the input of the wii remotes as an controller input to other programms. Then you will be able to use multiple wII remotes in the games.

Yes multiplayer is possible with vjoy2 plugin. Play with more than 2 player.

Here a detail tutorial how to configure the emulators: https://geekonarium.de/en/lightgun-emulator-config...

If you want to programm your own plugin watch no further than here:

Dolphins love vjoy :D

Update: Try viGem instead of vjoy: https://geekonarium.de/en/vigem-lightgun-emulator-configuration/

It is more compatible to all emulators!

More Infors about using lenses and calibration for this comming soon!

Enjoy

Happy playing!

The gun only needs to be 2.0 - 2.4 times as far away as the display is wide. The limitation of the 2 LEDs is that you have to stand far enough away so that you can always see the 2 LEDs from the camera and still aim everywhere. Therefore, homemade LEDs placed in the middle of the screen are better than the sensor bar.

Troubleshooting

Comming Sooner or Later for 2 LED Tracker

  • 1 LED mode
  • Calculations based on the last position when only 1 LED is in view. This benefits users with homemade LEDs who center the LEDs on the display.

Updates

Mark As Made :D

Please do me a favor an mark this project as made if you use it :)

Mayflash Dolphinbar

Seems like LightGunMan found a solution to use mayflash Dolphin bar. Look this video and read the description:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g-P58zCYR9U

No warranty because i didn't test it myself. Feel free to write feedback if it works for your :-).

From what I have understood it was managed to activate the LEDs permanently for this particular sensor bar. However, it probably still needs to be connected via a separate USB dongle.
