Follow these simple steps to create your very own Wicked Witch Jar. Lets get started.
Take a Trip to Your Local Craft Shop
I went to Hobby Lobby to purchase my materials, but any craft shop in your area should work. Additionally, you could use a different style jar, hat, ribbon, or candle holder to fit your own personal preference. The specific materials I used and their approximate prices are as follows:
Materials:
- MIRACAL™ Spray Enamel in Flat Black (Fast Dry)- $1.35
- KRYLON® Glitter Shimmer (Shimmering Silver)- $5.99
- E6000 Industrial Strength Adhesive (Clear)- $5
- Imagination Station® Cork Coasters (Round)- $2.77
- Marigold Market® Felt Witch Hat (6in)- $3.27
- Pumpkin Shaped "Crafts Jar" (12oz/food safe)- $3.99
- Black Iron "Candlestick Holder" (5in)- $5
- The Ribbon Boutique™ "Trick or Treat" Ribbon- $1
Tools:
- Hot Glue Gun*
- Scissors
*Warning: This tool could is extremely hot. Avoid touching the glue and hot areas of gun.
Apply Glitter to Witch Hat (Optional)
If you would like to add a little sparkle to your witch hat, use the Glitter Shimmer to evenly cover the surface of the hat. Add as much or as little as you like. Be sure to hold the can 6-8 inches from the hat while spraying and to allow 2-3 minutes* for drying.
Note: *Drying time may vary based on the amount of glitter used.
Paint Cork Coaster
Cover the entire surface of the coaster with black spray paint. Be sure to hold the can 6-8 inches from the coaster and make several passes. This will help to prevent the paint from pooling or being uneven. After evenly painting the first side allow the coaster to dry 3-5 minutes (or to the touch) before flipping it over and painting the other side. Be sure to cover the outer rim of the coaster with paint, as it may be tricky to get a good angle on with the paint.
Glue Coaster to Bottom of Witch Hat
Use a hot glue gun to attach the coaster and witch hat. Cover the inner rim of the hat in hot glue and quickly place the coaster so that it is centered on the bottom of the hat. Hold the two together firmly or press down on a hard surface for 1-2 minutes while glue cools.
Glue Bottom of Jar to Candle Holder
Use the E6000 adhesive to attach the bottom of your jar to the top of the candle holder. Apply the glue generously to the bottom of the jar and set it onto the candle holder. Be sure to center the jar. This may take anywhere from 24-72 hours to dry completely.
Note: If you use hot glue the drying time is reduced to 3-7 minutes. However, the hot glue may not dry as clear as the E6000 glue.
Glue Witch Hat to Top of Jar
Use a hot glue gun to attach the witch hat to the top of the jar. Apply a generous amount of glue to the top of the jar, then center the witch hat on top. Hold the hat down for 1-2 minutes while the glue dries.
Apply Your Favorite Halloween Ribbon
Finish your jar's design with a bow of your choosing. The ribbon can be applied to any part of the Witch Jar that you choose.
