WiFi Directional Antenna Fix, From Aluminium Can.

This is a simple device anyone can make, that should improve your reception quality and or strength.

An aluminium can is the basis for the design, therefore making this a very affordable project to try in your spare time... Goodluck!! :)

To often these days our wireless internet connections are being corrupted by external influences, some of these are buildings,electronic interferances not to mention the rest..

This is a simple device made from any aluminium can (alcoholic preferably), cuts down on some of these and helps focus on a directional point..
This may not be applicable on many modem units..

Although I want to share this I also ask to you read the following. Just so we are clear.. :)

So lets get started!!
What will we need??

~Tinsnips/dremel
~Gloves/goggles
~Aluminium can (I'm not sure why, but alcoholic beverages seem to work the best.{make sure you drink it before we start})

That's it... Did you even need to leave your desk..? LoL..

So we have what we need..

Low quality video, but you should get the idea..

Please use goggles and gloves... I have done this many times now for friends and family... As you can see from the video the can springs violently and will cut you..

1. Cut top and bottom off can.

2. Slice up one side.

3. Expand to relavent angle, close to 100mm diameter. The can starts at approx 65mm.

4. Cut an appropriate section out of the bottom edge to suit your antenna.

5. Add some tape to edges if desired..

Now for some fine tuning..

Due to the individual characteristics of your WiFi antenna, you will need to tune you "dish".

This involves fixing it behind your antenna, then expanding and contracting the "gap at the front of the "dish".

If you have applications on you computer on signal and or strength, use them.
Apply the same rules as finding a suitable location for the modem. Take note of where the diameter of the can is giving the highest results.
Once you have noted this, remove the can and shape it to remain in that diameter... My sweet spot is an opening of 110mm and would be a good place to start, when tuning yours..

There are two simple explanations why an alcoholic beverage works best.

1. The individual molecular build-up, of tiny particles of alcohol on the aluminium surface of the can react and form a unrecognised
bi-product. This phenomenum allows for perfect wave reflection. This surface is far superior to those used in common day and commercial practices..
I am happy to say I am the first to discover this super surface

2. Hopefully after making several mistakes and modifications to your dish, you have needed to drink several cans. So given your now totally pissed, any change we get can be thouroughly celebrated..!! ;)
If we are drunk and believing 1. then we are almost there

If your not getting a responce, try moving your "dishs" direction to point elsewhere...

If it doesn't work within an hour of fiddling... it probably means you antenna wont' respond to the dish behind it. Try going free-style and hold the dish in your hand around, to the side, infront, above, below the antenna etc... the reflections may assist reception too...
