Ever since people have been in existence, there is always a need to feel safe. The security systems that we have installed in our homes and places of work are some examples of how we as humans put importance on security and safety.

Years ago, animals such as dogs were used as a security systems to our houses. These animals would be kept near the entrance to our houses with the notion that they’d make noise if a person came near.

Our project is inspired by this concept. So we created an alarm system with a remote control for disarming.

Materials that we used in this project includes the following:

  • 2 Micro:bits
  • 4 alligator clips
  • 1 Red LED
  • 1 Resistor
  • Aluminum foil
  • Jewelry box

This is our set-up:

Jewelry Box

1) Get an aluminum foil and fold it into long strips as shown in the picture. Make two strips.

2) Put one strip on the lid of the jewelry box.

3) Put another strip on the other half of the jewelry box.

Micro:bit 1

4) Using alligator clips, connect one end of the clip to the aluminum foil on the cover of the jewelry box and the other end to pin 2 of Micro:bit 1.

5) Do the same thing on the other foil but connect the other end to the ground pin of Micro:bit 1. Refer to the picture for reference.

Micro:bit 2

6) Connect the first alligator clip on pin 0. The other end will be connected to a resistor.

7) Connect the resistor to a red LED which is then connected to one end of a second alligator clip.

8) The other end of the second alligator clip will be connected to ground 0.

How to Use Our Device

Microbit Unit Project

How to Use our Device:

Step 1: To set the alarm, close the jewelry box.

Step 2: To trigger the alarm, open the jewelry box.

Step 3: To disarm the system, using Micro:bit 2 press the B button.

Step 4: If Micro:bit 2 is unavailable, you may disarm using Micro:bit 1 by pressing the A+B buttons simultaneously.

Individual Reflections is a process where we look into what we have done and reflect on the things that went well and those that didn't. It is a way to improve our craft.

With that said here are our individual reflections on our project for this unit.
