Whisky Case Bluetooth Portable Tower Speakers (40W)
I always wanted a compact yet powerful speaker system for my work table, but I couldnt find any inspiration to build one.But when I saw the Glenfiddich single malt scotch whisky I instantly fell in love with it, not with what was inside the bottle but with what was outside , its case . The triangular design was just perfect for a corner speaker. So after two days of work I came up with this unique speaker system and it was just perfect for my table. It has bluetooth ,USB, SD,FM and AUX support.
It even has a FM transmitter so that music from the above sources can be transmitted wirelessly to all other systems around the house. Its very useful when you want different music systems in your home to play the same song in sync.It also helps if you have old systems which only supports FM and AUX.
The system has four 3 inch 10 watt speakers and two tweeters which is more than enough to fill the whole hall with deep bass and super clear sound. The speaker can be used in its tower position or by lying it on its back.
Things You Will Need:-
1. A Glenfiddich single malt whisky case or any other whisky case which is made of hard non flexible cardboard.
2. 3 inch 10 watt full range speakers 8 ohms X 4
3. 1 inch tweeters(small car tweeters can be used) X 2
4. Audio panel with multiple music input and remote X 1
5. Any cheap car radio transmitter. X 1
6. 20 + 20 watt amplifier 12 volt 4 ohms. X 1
7. DC jack X 2
8. DC switch X 2
9. 1000uf 35v capacitor X 1
10. A small telescopic antenna
11. Potentiometer( volume control)
12. L7805 voltage regulation IC X 1
13. Pringles can ( the 3 inch diameter one)
14. 12 volt 2.6 ah anti spill battery(choose a battery that fits your whisky case design) X 1
Tools Needed:-
1. A drill ( bits: 1 inch wood bit, sanding bit)
2. Box cutter
3. Filing tool
4. Super glue
5. Hot glue gun
6. pliers
7. Hand held rotary cutting tool.
The CIRCUIT
The above circuit represents all the connections in the system
I have added the same circuit diagram rotated 90 degrees so that smartphone users can see it clearly.
Making the Necessary Holes
1. The holes for the speakers are first drawn on the case according to the layout you wish
2. The holes are cut out using the rotary tool with cutting bit, then the holes are smoothened and shaped to perfection using the sanding bit.
3.The holes for the tweeters are made using a 1 inch wood drilling bit.
4. The holes for the dc jack is made on the back as well as the bottom of the case so that the speaker can be plugged into the charger when its used in the tower position or when its kept down on its back.
5. The hole for the switch is made in the front using the rotary tool.
Fitting the Amplifier and Speakers
1. The dc switch and jack are first bolted into place .
2. The wires from the jack are soldered to the battery and then to the amplifier through a switch. The 1000uf capacitor is connected in parallel with the amplifier's power input.
3. The amplifier is fixed inside the case using nuts and bolts and the battery is hot glued into place.
4. The wires to each speakers are extended out through their particular speaker holes and the wires to the audio panel are taken out through the top.
5. 2 inch rings are cut out from a pringles can so that it can be used as seen the picture to make the joint between the speaker and whisky case airtight . Its important because the surface of the whisky case is curved
6. The speakers are glued to their respective holes with the pringle ring in between using superglue and then made airtight using a glue gun.
7. The speakers from the car tweeters are taken and directly glued to the case from the inside and made airtight using hot glue.
8. The corners of the speakers are bent inside towards the whisky can as seen in the last pic.
Making the Top Control Panel
1. A piece of plastic sheet or acrylic sheet is cut out in the shape of the cross section of the whisky case.
2. The rectangular holes are made for the audio panel , the FM transmitter display and the switch for the FM transmitter.
3. Holes are drilled for the antenna and bolts for fastening the audio panel.
4. The panel is bolted and the FM transmitter is hot glued into place, The switch is easily push locked into place.
5. The wires from the amplifier is connected to the audio panel and parallely to the FM transmitter too so that the sound output from the audio panel goes to the amp as well as the transmitter.
6. The battery is connected to the audio panel through a LM7805 IC but in case of the FM transmitter the battery can be directly connected via switch.
7.Power is given and the circuit is tested.
Finishing
1. The top panel is glued into place using hot glue.
2. The case is made as airtight as possible using hot glue covering all the gaps with it.
4. The batteries are charged for a few hours .
5. All the features are tested
AND THERE YOU HAVE IT
