Whiskey Ginger: an Airplane Mini-Bottle Cocktail

I don't drink much, so keeping bottles of liquor is not a cost-effective thing to do. They evaporate before I finish them. Therefore, I'm on a quest to find cocktail recipes that use those little airplane bottles of liquor.

Supplies

What you need are:

  1. An airplane mini-bottle of whiskey
  2. A single-serving can of ginger ale
  3. I couldn't find a store selling just a can of ginger ale, so I opted for a larger bottle.
  4. Something to stir with
  5. There's no reason you couldn't use an iced-tea spoon; I just happen to have this cocktail spoon laying around from dreams since abandoned.
  6. A 12-oz. glass
  7. I'm using a 12-ounce Highball glass I bought on Amazon {no longer available}.
  8. Half a tray of ice (7-ish cubes)

Mix It.

Put the ice in the glass. Pour in the whiskey and the ginger ale. Stir with the stirrer. VoilĂ !

Was It Worth It?

At $2.16 for all the ingredients, it isn't that expensive, especially when you think of what you pay at a bar.

Taste-wise, this is my favorite of the three cocktails I have tried (the other two being Bloody Mary and Almost Tequila Sunrise). It is sweet, light, and refreshing.

Effect-wise, it isn't as potent at the Tequila Sunrise. (Is tequila a higher proof than whiskey?) However, I'm feeling nicely tipsy. If I had another bottle of whiskey, I'd make a second one. This recipe was definitely worth it.

Chow for now!

UPDATE: It is now about 10 minutes after drinkign the cocktail, and I am feeling quite light-headed. This mix is definitel;y worth it. When I grocery chop again, I'll buy a couple more apripane bottles so I can make more, although I will also be making an aprplain old fashioned. Stay tuned!
