How to Reuse the Gearbox from an Oldschool Push Lawnmower Are you looking for a fun and creative way to repurpose an unused old-fashioned push lawnmower? If so, you’ve come to the right place! This tutorial will walk you through the process of reusing the gearbox from an old-fashioned push lawnmower to create a variety of everyday objects.

Im hoping with this instructable to be able to make something that once would have helped me when I was lost and looking to gear down a scraped together project, and absolutely refusing to 3d print gears or. two years ago I was trying to make a large scale roto caster and just had the absolute worst time trying to gear it down from the speed of my cordless drill.

a push mower is just one source I have found but they are nice because they are fairly common and come with two sets of gears, two solid mounting plates, and able to be taken apart with some pretty basic tools

for this project you'll need a driving force, (reason to pull gears out of something), and reason not to 3d print or otherwise fabricate your own gears.

then you'll need a old push lawn mower, the freer the better,

a multitool of some sort

another grabbing tool, vice grips or adjustable wrench

flat head screwdriver, and impact if you have one but its doable without one

and about 45 minutes

now we are going to dissect the beast, start with your knife

following these photos you'll see just how quickly the entire machine can be deconstructed. I hope this is inspiring to someone for where you might source parts in a pinch. Ive heard good things about skill saws when you need a worm gear

good luck out there!
