Welding T and Lap Joints

Hello, my name is Spencer Blotsky in fact I am currently a student at Lake Area Technical College in the welding program. Today I am going to show y’all how to weld a T and Lap join. These joints are one of the most seen joints out in the world/work force. For example, welding on a cab you will run into T joints and Lap joints. I am going to show you how to weld these joints in six easy steps. For the last 3 years I have been welding and learning all about it.
Supplies
Y'all will need a welder with gas, welding helmet, welding jacket, welding gloves and steel.

First, turn on the welder and make sure it is on the right settings(270 wire speed and 17.5 amps). Also make sure you have a welding helmet and a welding jacket on.

Second, put on of the welding tip and nozzle and make sure the shock ring is on, so you don't get shocked.

Third, turn on the gas make sure you are getting about 30psi; you don't want more then that because it could cause porosity and if you use less then that it will not fuse right.

Fourth, get four pieces of 11-12 gauge steel which is about 2.78-3.05mm thick.

Fifth, tack up a T and Lap joint, the T joint should look like the letter T when tacked up and the lap joint is one piece of steel on top the other piece over lapping about halfway.

Sixth, weld them up, when welding these up you want about 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch of wire sticking out. Then you stick that little piece of wire into the corner of the joint and pull the trigger.
