Week 2 - Press Fit Pieces

Goal: Create a press fit mating joint between two pieces
Create Heart Outline

First, I looked up an easy way to create a heart. I found that creating a square with two circles was a good way to make a nice and well formed heart, so I started with that.
Separate Heart Into Two Halves

Next, I separated the heart into two halves by trimming all of the edges that I did not want. I then created construction lines and re-drew two hearts so that they were apart from each other. This way, I could more easily add the wedges to the solid.
Add Notches to Heart Sketch

Afterwards, I added some wedges to form the press fit sides.
Extrude Heart Notches

Lastly, I extruded the edges, which completes my initial run of the digital design.
Laser Cutting

After exporting to illustrator and preparing the file for the laser cutter, I was pleasantly surprised that the design worked on the first try! The default trim of 0.15mm worked well, and I am happy with the results of this project
