Wearable LED Flower Brooch

This project was created for YuKonstruct's first Build Night.

YuKonstruct is the first makerspace in Canada's north. Our mission is to provide access to shared space, quality tools, available expertise, and a collaborative environment to help makers build anything!

This pretty flower pin is easy to make and fun to wear.

The parts are also easily assembled into kits if you'd like to make a bunch of them at your next craft party.

You'll need:

• LED
• Battery
• Tulle
• Felt
• Needle & thread (or a glue gun and glue)
• Pin back
• Scissors
• Pliers

Cut a leaf shape out of felt.

Make sure the felt leaves are large enough to cover your battery.

Poke the metal ends (leads) of the LED through the felt leaves.

Using small pliers, carefully bend the leads of the LED. One lead should be curled up tight against the felt leaves and the other should stick out in a L shape in order to touch the other side of the battery.

Test the fit with the battery. If both leads are touching one side each of the battery but it doesn't work, try flipping over the battery.

Cut out a square of felt slightly larger than the battery.

Sew 3 edges of the felt square to the felt leaves to create a pocket for the battery (alternatively, use a glue gun).

Twist and wrap the tulle around the LED to create your flower.

Secure the tulle in place with a few stitches (alternatively, use a glue gun).

Sew the pin back onto the back of the battery pocket.

Pop in the battery and wear your glowing flower with pride!

When not in use, simply slide the battery out of the pocket.

You can also embellish your flower with glitter, embroidery or paint.

These glowing flowers would make funky prom corsages, wedding boutonnieres or hair accessories.
