In this Instructables, you will learn how to make a beautiful water lily out of paper! Don't worry: It's much easier than it looks!

Supplies

·      8 pieces of square origami paper

·      1 rubber band

Prepare

step1 (1).JPG
step1 (2).JPG

Fold the square origami paper in half. Cut along the crease line. With 8 pieces of origami paper, you get 16 rectangles.

You can also make 12 rectangles with 6 sheets of paper. This makes the flower have less petals.

For each rectangle, do the following:

·      Fold in half as shown.

·      Fold in 4 corners as shown.

·      Fold left and right sides toward the middle along the vertical line.

·      Fold along the vertical middle line.

Make One Petal

step2.JPG

For each rectangle, fold as shown:

·      Fold in half, hotdog style.

·      Fold in the 4 corners as shown.

·      Fold the left and right sides to the middle vertical line.

·      Fold along the vertical middle line.

Group Petals

Layer each group of 4 strips together. Bind the 4 groups with a rubber band as shown.

If you have 12 groups, bind 3 groups of 4 strips each together.

Flip the Petals

step3 (4).jpg

Layer by layer, from the inside out, flip the petals up as shown.

If you turn the structure upside down before flipping the petals up, the smooth side of the petals will be on the outside instead of the inside. The cream-colored lily has smooth on the outside, slit on the inside, while the pink lily has smooth on the inside, slit on the outside.

Final Product

The cream-colored water lily has 24 petals, while the pink one has 32. Which one do you like better?
