Water Fountain

The picture above is of the finished product. This is a water fountain, of which it's purpose is to use suction to pull the water up to the top and cycle back down to continue the perpetual motion. (It may stop over time or a few minutes)

• 3 plastic soda bottles
• 5 drinking straws
• 3 bottle caps (from the soda bottles)
• Hot glue gun (you're going to want to start heating it up)

Cut one of the straws like so, a couple inches long.

Use the piece of straw you cut to connect two straws (one of them being the straw you cut from). The easiest way to do this is by pinching one of the straws to be more compact and then putting it into the other straw.

Drill two holes (large enough to fit the straws snug) in all three bottle caps like the shown picture.

Take the hot glue gun and glue two of the bottle caps together, so that their holes line up. You may need to redrill the holes if glue gets in the way. (AFTER the glue dries)

Screw the connected caps onto the bottom bottle.

Insert the longest connected straw you made earlier into one of the wholes on the bottle caps. Straw should be around the same distance down in the bottle.

Insert another, normal sized, straw into the other hole on the bottle caps like so. Straw should be about half above and below.

Use the hot glue gun on the bottle cap between the two straws to secure and seal the space. Let dry and cool.

Put hot glue on the bottom of the other bottle. Once the hot glue is on, place the other (last) bottle cap on the glue. Try to have this centered. Let the glue dry and cool. After this is done, drill through the two (already made) holes of the bottle cap to create aligned holes in the bottle.

Screw the two bottles together and put the long straw through the top hole. Everything should be screwed on tight.

Insert one more normal sized straw in the other hole on the top of the structure. Leave a couple inches sticking out of the top. Cut the longest straw shorter so that it is close to the cap.

Screw the top piece on, the top part of the half bottle that should be cut in half. This is the third bottle that wasn't used yet. Add water and see how yours works!
