Water Bottle Rocket
For this project, my team and I have decided to make a water bottle rocket.
Supplies
Materials Used:
- Two 2-liter soda bottles
- Balsa wood
- Duct tape
- Manila folder
Tools Used:
- Bandsaw
- Hacksaw
- Scissors
- Marker
Gather/Check All Materials
Get all of your materials and make sure they are of high quality. Make sure the soda bottles aren't deformed. Make sure the wood is not chipped or deformed. And make sure the manila folder is not torn.
Make the Body of the Rocket
- Take one of the 2-liter bottles and cut it in half using a hacksaw
- Take the cap side of the half-bottle and attach it to the bottom of the full 2-liter bottle
- Duct tape those two together
Make the Rocket Fins
- Trace out three of the same fin patterns onto the balsa wood with a marker
- Cut those fins out using a bandsaw
Attach the Fins to the Rocket Body
- On the side of the full 2-liter bottle, evenly mark out where the fins are going, near the cap, with a marker
- Attach the fins to those marks with duct tape on each side of the fins and one long piece that goes over for each of the fins
Make the Nose Cone
- Make a cone out of the manila folder and use duct tape to hold it together
- Cut out any excess materials from the manila folder as needed
- Reinforce the cone with more duct tape
Attach the Nose Cone to the Rocket
- Put the cone onto the half-bottle of the rocket body
- Duct tape the nose cone onto the half-bottle side of the rocket using duct tape
Congratulations!
You have made a water bottle rocket!
