Washable No-Sew Mask

IMG_6380.JPG

You can make this washable, reusable new-sew face mask at home. This is great for those who don't know how to sew (or are are bit clumsy with sewing, like me!) If you use something like a handkerchief, you won't even need to cut the material. Aside from being able to wash this, it's also beneficial in the way that you can make it custom to your face shape to ensure you're covered over your nose and under the chin. The straps that go around your ears are made from stockings and cause zero pain and strain.

This has been done for generations in our family. It always helped me a lot with my allergies when we would do family gardening days. Thanks to my mother for passing this on to me. Here, I've used a Winnie the Pooh handkerchief from my childhood. Bit comforting! :)

Gather Your Materials

You will need

  • stockings
  • scissors
  • 10"x10(ish) handkerchief or piece of cloth

I'm a big proponent of not wasting things. Even though these striped tights are from my younger, confused goth days, I'll probably still wear them as leggings now that I've cut the bottoms off for this. 😋

Make the Bands

Cut off 2 rings from a leg of your stockings. Set aside.

Fold Material to Shape

Fold mask material in half.

Fold the top sides down to the middle section.

Fold the bottom sides to the middle section.

Add the Bands

Loop the stocking bands onto the sides of the folded material.

Fold the sides of the material into the center. Tuck one side into the other. No need to pin or sew.

Put It On

Hold the mask against your face and loop the bands around your ears. Pull on the material at the top and bottom to ensure your nose and chin are covered. Wash after each use.
