Warm Dog Coat Custom Size

Canvas outer, old mattress protector for the inner and polar fleece lining. Velcro tabs. Cute embroidery. Thread, scissors, pins, sewing machine. 1 inch wide cotton tape.

Measure collar to tail, chest to rump and around the barrel.

Cut the pattern out of iron on stiffener. Then lay on canvas, backline on the fold, and cut out.
Then the same with the batting and lining. Cut the belly flap out one piece of each fabric.

Sew on chosen embroidery to the canvas on the left rump area, with a sewing machine.

Put the pieces together, canvas, batting then lining, right side out and pin. Trim to neaten. Pin the belly flap to the right side attachment area, between the canvas and the batting. Pin the darts in the rump if you want it more fitted.

Sew the belly flap at the attachment place on the right side of the coat so it does up on the dogs' left. Sew the darts. Carefully sew the pieces together with the cotton tape, all the way around. Then flip over and pull the tape over the edge of the fabric and sew it down to fully cover the edge.

Cut a fluffy piece of the velcro and sew onto the inside of the chest flap, on the dogs right side. Attach a prickly piece to the canvas on the chest part, on the dogs left. I use pieces at least 6 inches long. Then attach two pieces of fluffy velcro side by side on the polar fleece side of the belly flap.Then two longer pieces of prickly velcro side by side,that match up with the belly band when it is done up, on the canvas.
And whalaa! Thats it finished!
