Wardrobe Box on Wheels
One of the things I never liked about moving was the wardrobe boxes. They were expensive (about $12.00). My hangers didn't fit on their huge metal bar, and none of them came with wheels. So I decided to make my own out of stuff I had lying around the house. Not only did it save me money, but everything about my DIY wardrobe boxes was better.
Materials List:
-Large Box
-Wood pole
- strong tape
-Screwdriver or scissors
-Caster Wheels (optional) ($1.00/wheel)
Step 1: Make Holes in Box
Take a hanger and gauge how far down the holes should go on the box so that you can close the top of the box with the hanger inside it. Mark the hole position with a pen and then tape over that area with clear tape. The tape ensures that the cardboard around the hole won't be too ripped up when you try to puncture the cardboard. In the photo, I use a screwdriver to punch the holes in.
Step 2: Stick the Wood Pole Through Both Holes
Step 3: Cut Pole to Desired Length
The length of the pole will depend on how much pole you want to stick out of the box. I liked to leave about 3 inches to make a little handle for the box.
Step 4: Secure the Poles
Wrap the tape around both sides of where the pole enters and exits the cardboard. This step secures the pole.
Step 5: Hang Clothes in Your New Wardrobe Box!
Because I hate carrying things, I put wheels on the bottom of the box so that I could roll them around. Enjoy!
