Hi All,
We generate a lot of e-wastes, and mobile chargers are one of the biggest contributors, in this instructable, I will share how to reuse an old mobile charger, scrap wooden plywood, and a mason jar to make a lamp
What Do We Need?
![IMG_20221112_141549.jpg](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/F9F/O9NK/LADXVCC9/F9FO9NKLADXVCC9.jpg&filename=IMG_20221112_141549.jpg)
![IMG_20221112_212741.jpg](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/FG5/NKN2/LADXVBYW/FG5NKN2LADXVBYW.jpg&filename=IMG_20221112_212741.jpg)
- A scrap wooden plywood (19mm or .075 inch)
- Mason Jar
- Old Mobile charger
- Fairy-led lights (10M)
- Electric wires
- Soldering Iron
- Electric tape
- Drilling machine
Design Elements
![IMG_20221112_151017.jpg](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/FL9/11QW/LADXVC9J/FL911QWLADXVC9J.jpg&filename=IMG_20221112_151017.jpg)
- We want the wires to be hidden
- The lid is strong enough to hold the jar's weight
- The shelf can be attached to the base using screws
- Fairy LED lights instead of a regular bulb
Cutting
![IMG_20221112_142300.jpg](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/FDM/39UL/LADXVCBJ/FDM39ULLADXVCBJ.jpg&filename=IMG_20221112_142300.jpg)
![IMG_20221112_143120.jpg](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/F5G/SZ58/LADXVCAU/F5GSZ58LADXVCAU.jpg&filename=IMG_20221112_143120.jpg)
![IMG_20221112_143810.jpg](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/FW3/GMYF/LADXVCA6/FW3GMYFLADXVCA6.jpg&filename=IMG_20221112_143810.jpg)
- Cut 4" planks - 2 pieces
- Measure the diameter of the jar, mine was 3.5"
- Based on that, cut one of them 1" extra,
- So we have two planks with dimensions: 4"x8.5" and 4"x4.5"
The Base
![Base.png](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/FM0/1V0M/LADXUMS7/FM01V0MLADXUMS7.png&filename=Base.png)
![IMG_20221112_195847.jpg](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/F2G/L54R/LADXVC4H/F2GL54RLADXVC4H.jpg&filename=IMG_20221112_195847.jpg)
![IMG_20221112_195852.jpg](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/F4K/7Q4U/LADXVC40/F4K7Q4ULADXVC40.jpg&filename=IMG_20221112_195852.jpg)
- We need holes in the base
- Electric wire
- 2 holes for the shelf
- 2 holes for hanging the lamp on the wall
- And a gap for hiding wire joints
The Shelf
![Shelf.png](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/FXJ/0WM5/LADXUMS6/FXJ0WM5LADXUMS6.png&filename=Shelf.png)
![IMG_20221112_195812.jpg](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/F5P/U05F/LADXVC7T/F5PU05FLADXVC7T.jpg&filename=IMG_20221112_195812.jpg)

- On the shelf, we need holes for
- Electric wire and path
- 2 holes in the base
- 2 holes for the lid
- We want the wires to be hidden, drilling may be a bit tricky
The Lid
![IMG_20221112_195816.jpg](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/FH6/LC66/LADXVC78/FH6LC66LADXVC78.jpg&filename=IMG_20221112_195816.jpg)

- Drill holes in the lid, matching the shelf
- Paint the lid black using spray paint and leave it to dry for a few hours
Staining
![IMG_20221112_204548.jpg](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/F41/AR4L/LADXVC2C/F41AR4LLADXVC2C.jpg&filename=IMG_20221112_204548.jpg)

- Stain the plywood as shown
- Fix the shelf and base using screws
Electric

- Carefully break open the old charger
- Remove metal plugs and solder 2 wires or a 2-core wire to the charger
- Solder the +ve and -ve of the fairy light
- Put the charger case back on, we do not want the circuit to be visible
Assemble
![IMG_20221113_100044.jpg](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/F2O/D70H/LADXVBPQ/F2OD70HLADXVBPQ.jpg&filename=IMG_20221113_100044.jpg)

- Screw the lid in place
- Pull the electric wire through the lid, shelf, and finally through the base, as shown
- Superglue the charger in place
- Initially, I left the USB connector on the fairy led lights, but later soldered the lights directly on the charger
Testing

- Before we finalize everything, test the lamp
- I found that my LEDs were not properly soldered so that to re-solder them
Hanging
![IMG_20221113_114645.jpg](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/F94/GB7N/LADXVHJ6/F94GB7NLADXVHJ6.jpg&filename=IMG_20221113_114645.jpg)
- Drill holes on the wall
- Connect the electric wires
- Hang the lamp and switch-on
- Admire the lamp
Hope you like the lamp and are inspired to make one
