Here are the supplies you’ll need to make a sturdy and polished walking stick:

  1. Wooden Stick – the foundation of your walking stick, chosen for strength and straightness.
  2. Sandpaper – used to smooth out the surface and remove rough edges.
  3. Polyurethane – applied as a protective finish to seal the wood and bring out its natural beauty.
  4. Leather String – adds grip, style, and a loop for carrying or hanging.
  5. Rubber Tip – fitted at the base to provide traction and reduce slipping.
  6. Paint Brush – for applying sealant to stick.

Together, these materials ensure your walking stick is both functional and long-lasting with a clean, professional look.

Sanding the Stick

Sand your wooden stick to remove the bark. A knife sometimes may be needed for quicker results but may lead to damage on the wood. Remember sand with the grain to produce the smoothest outcome. Then add a leather thong if wanted.

Protection and Shine

Add your polyurethane for maximum shine and long lasting protection. Multiple coats may be needed. Set out to dry. Then add your cap and you have your new, sturdy, and rustic walking stick. Enjoy the outdoors!
