Walking Cane Clamp
When you use a walking cane, quite often there is no place to stow it without it falling over. I decided to make a clamp that could be attached easily to a table next to my chair. This is an easy project, with little or no cost, and can be made in a matter of minutes.
Supplies
Materials:
- a small piece of kydex (or any heat-moldable plastic), a short piece of carpet tape, and some scrap wood.
Tools:
- a saw (I used a band saw, but a manual saw will do fine)
- a heat source (I used a small heat gun)
- a C-clamp or two
Make a Pattern and Cut Out the Part
I experimented with a paper pattern, then transferred the pattern to the kydex. Because the kydex was black, I covered it with blue tape so I could see the lines for cutting.
Heat and Bend
I used some scrap wood to bend the kydex after heating along where the bends needed to take place. I started with the sides, then bent the "wings" to the shape I needed to hold a variety of canes I use. I made sure it would accommodate the thickest canes I have, and bent a flair at the ends so that thinner canes could be trapped inside.
Apply Carpet Tape
Because I didn't want to drill holes in my furniture, I applied double-sided carpet to the top of the bracket in order to attach it to the overhang on my side table. I could have attached it with screws, but carpet tape holds it just fine.
That Is All!
Now I don't have to try to balance my cane against anything or place it on the floor. This is an easy project, and I think I completed it in about 15 minutes. I have since made others to place them where I need them.
