We were tasked in sourcing solid wood, to create a transportation themed wooden toy. The toy was required to have at least one moving part, one lathed part and one complex wood join. This wooden toy would have to be designed in such a way that would compliment the wooden pieces (such as its grain and texture), we would have to pay close attention to detail, surface finish and neatness of construction.

Once we had created our wooden toy we were then tasked in recreating it using Fusion 360 as well as making an interlocking sliced version of the product using slicer.

During this process I started off with by laminated 2 pieces of pine

together. I drilled 2 holes all the way through for the weeks, I then started carving the front and back of the car. After that I removed the inside of to make space for the interior. I then started working on the small parts (seats, lights, number plates, rims, gearbox, cup holder, steering wheel and the door) which were made from nots in the wood and Meranti wood. Once this was all done and glued in place, I then lathed a piece of wood to create 4 wheels. I made sure that all 4 wheels would be able to spin on their axel as well as the door being able to open on a wooden hinge. After all of that all that was left was to sand, lots and lots of sanding. I worked my up from 100 grit to 800 grit. to ensure for a smooth and beautiful finish.
