WEDGE PILLOW WITH ZIPPER COVER

My husband, and my daughter were both in need of a wedge pillow for their own reasons. Each different, but this can be used for many reasons. Snoring, acid reflux, pregnancy, neck, e.t.c....

So, this was simple enough ro make compared to cost of a store bought wedge pillow.

Supplies

Supplies you will need if you follow this instructable, are:

*-22"×22"×3" square foam cushion from the hobby or fabric department of store.
-about 1yd. Of cotton fabric, or whatever you'd like to use for cover
- 14"-20" Zipper

*-Measuring tool, such as a ruler/ tape measure.
- Marking pen/ chalk
-Paper to make a pattern on
-Cutting blade, or bread knife to cut through the foam cushion.
-sewing machine, or needle&thread. Iron

Cutting Your Foam Cushion

I didn't photograph before I wrapped this cushion, but....
What I did was, I took my ruler to the side of the cushions high point at one end, to the low point of opposite end where you can see a diagonal line, used my pen and drew a line. Repeated on other side as well. Then I used a bread knife to cut that angle all the way through entire cushion.
Then I turned one of those diagonal cuts around and placed it back on top of bottom piece, which creates a wedge instead of a square.
I also had used some batting I had on hand just to wrap the two pieces to keep together.

Measuring and Cutting Your Fabric

So, What I did was I took a large piece of paper and put it on the side of the cushion for the V-shaped wedge and traced that for my side pieces. But included 1/2" on each side of that V for seam allowance.

And then I measured the top flat piece which would be the same as the bottom and I also measured the very back high end of wedge.

What Your Pieces Should Look Like.

I Traced the triangle onto my fabric including that half inch seam allowance all the way around. So now I have the following.

* 2 pieces 27"×22" of main fabric for top and bottom

*1 22"×8" back piece that I am going to cut in half into two pieces of 22"×4", and place my zipper in between them.
* 2 Triangle pieces from pattern.
* 1- zipper.

Take one of your main body pieces And one of your triangles.
With right sides together place triangle on Longer side of the main body piece. pin in place, then sew with half inch seam allowance, along outer long edge only. Repeat with other triangle, to opposite long side of same main body piece.

Open it all up to see 3 pieces stitched together in a row.
I also like to iron my seams open in back of fabric so all looks and fits nicely.

Then add your 2nd main body piece, Right on top of the 1st main body Piece with right sides together, Pin it in place and, again,
take the longer edges of each of the triangles and pin those to the 2nd main body piece just as you did with the 1st one, and sew along that long edge for each side again.
Next, pin the top and bottom short end pieces that is closest to smaller point of triangle, NOT the wider end, but the short end only, pin and sew that closed all the way across.

Then take your backside That measures 22" by 8" and cut that down the middle to make 2 pieces measuring 22" by 4" each.
Take your zipper piece and place upside down on top of one of those Backside pieces, which should be facing up. pin to the long edge and sew along that long edge.
Repeat that process with the 2nd backside piece by placing it upside down on to the right side up of zipper of 1st Backside piece and sew in place.

Next and final assembly step is to place that zipper panel section onto the main cover.
At wider end of main piece where it's open still, you'll just open it up a bit, unzip that zipper a bit to flip it all right side out when finished,
Place that zipper panel upside down onto the right side facing upward body panel opening, and pin on both sides, sew all the way around.
Reach inside to grab the entire cover and turn right side out, then stuff your wedge cushion inside, and zip up. And viola!!
