Volcano Incense Holder

Incense is often used in religious or spiritual rituals, as well as in various traditional and modern cultural practices. The use of incense is believed to have many different meanings and purposes, depending on the context in which it is used. Some people use incense as a way to purify or cleanse a space, while others may use it to help create a sense of peace, relaxation, or mindfulness. Incense may also be used as a way to honor or pay tribute to a deity or spiritual figure.

There are many different types of incense burners that are designed to hold and burn incense sticks or cones. Some common types of incense burners include:

  • Ash catchers
  • Stick burners
  • Cone burners
  • Tower burners
  • Suspended burners

The main purpose of an incense burner is to catch the ash, But they can be quirky, simple, and decorative too.

In this instructable, I will share how I made one, using items most of us have at our homes.

  • Using play dough create a cone
  • We do not need to detail the cone to look like a volcano
  • Place the play dough on a cardboard
  • Apply a layer of hot glue over it
  • Let the Glue cool down
  • Let the play dough cool down for 30 minutes
  • Then remove the play dough and we have the outer part of the mold ready

  • We want a hollow volcano with a hole in the top
  • Using cardboard create a tube
  • And some foam, create a smaller cone by stacking
  • Glue the tube and smaller cone as shown

  • For casting, I have used Plaster of Paris
  • Adding 2 parts of powder and one part water
  • The consistency should be like a pancake dough
  • Plaster of Paris set very quickly, so pour the mixture in the mold
  • Let it dry for 20 to 30 minutes and demold

Detailing

  • Once the Volcano is de-molded, use a pen knife to carve a conical shape as shown
  • Clean the surface using sandpaper
  • If needed curve the volcano as per one's liking

Painting

  • I painted it as a grey base
  • Then added white acrylic to depict snow
  • Light up an incense cone or stick and place the volcano over it
  • Sit back and relax
