Another challenge from the Frankenstein200 Workshop!

How do human vocal cords work to produce sounds like talking and singing? Is it possible to make a machine that talks or sings?

Complete this workshop activity to earn an achievement at Frankenstein.LIFE!

1. Two jumbo craft sticks, or large popsicle sticks
2. One wide rubber band (#64 size)
3. Two smaller, narrower rubber bands
4. Regular drinking straw

Stretch the thick rubber band lengthwise over one of the popsicle sticks.

Fit the straw segments under the stretched rubber band, on top of the popsicle stick, about one inch from either end.

Place the second popsicle stick on top of the other, on the side with the straws. Use the thin rubber bands to secure both ends, wrapping the rubber bands until everything is held in place.

Bring the assembly to your mouth like a harmonica, and blow air across the stretched rubber band. Adjust the position of the straws to produce different tones.
